Hobe Sound
Hobe Sound is an exurban area in southern Martin County near the Atlantic Ocean. It stretches along the coast between Port Salerno and Jonathan Dickinson State Park but does include Jupiter Island. Its western border is not clearly defined, though most development drops off only a few miles inland at Powerline Road.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Hobe Sound has a total area of 5.7 square miles (15 km2)&mdash, of which 5.5 square miles (14 km2) is land and 0.3 square miles (0.78 km2) (4.71%) is water.
Hobe Sound has a tropical savanna climate, closely bordering a subtropical climate to the north. The average high in January is 74 °F; in July and August it is 90 °F.
The name of Hobe Sound comes from the name of the Jove or Jobe Indians, one of the Native American groups that lived in the area before European settlement. The Spanish pronounced Jove/Jobe as [ˈxoβe], which later evolved into the current spelling "Hobe".
Hobe Sound offer world-class fishing in all three genres — freshwater, inshore saltwater and offshore saltwater.
Also outdoor adventures of other kinds, from horseback riding to hiking, particularly at local preserves and state parks, like Jonathan Dickinson State Park.
In addition to the obvious — waterfront access, fewer people — Hobe Sound is also convenient to Palm Beach County, particularly the social and entertainment hubs of Palm Beach and West Palm Beach.
